Genealogy for little kids who can't even write!

So, my husband and I teach a class of little three-year-old's at our church.  We have been talking about families for a couple of weeks and really wanted to connect it to family history somehow.  I looked and looked for simple ideas that we could do with them but couldn't find anything I really wanted to do.  All the kids' pedigree charts still have a lot of writing.  They are more typical pedigree charts but with fun backgrounds and stuff like that.  But these cute little kids can't even write their whole names!  And it is hard for them to understand the concept that their parents were kids once who had parents just like them.

Really the key for kids of any age, but especially for little kids is to keep it simple!  I thought I would be able to find a coloring page of sorts for these kids and didn't find what I pictured...so I created it!  And I wanted to share it for those who want to introduce your child or grandchild, student or other kid to family history in a fun and simple way.  Here is my coloring page free that you can use.  Share it!  And have fun coloring with those little kiddies who can't even write their name yet.  It's never too early to introduce them to family history!  Click here for the PDF download.

The drawings were inspired by some artwork found on coloring.ws which has a lot of cute coloring pages for kids free!

Let the kids draw their own faces in the circle provided labeled 'me.'  Don't get too technical with explanations as it seems to go right over their heads.  Just smile to yourself knowing that this is their very first pedigree chart!
